A forgotten Art Nouveau master, French painter Georges de Feure showed his work in the Exposition Universelle de Paris in 1900, with panels that adorned the outside of renowned art dealer Siegfried Bing’s pavilion at the fair. He crafted furniture, vases, candle sticks, and created theater designs for Le Chat Noir. His circle of friends included the composers Debussy, Ravel, and Satie.
His fate was as dark as his works were glowing. De Feure died neglected and destitute, but he drew women as if silk were flesh, and porcelain its natural color.
